Trip Report

Alpine Scramble - Wallaby Peak

The weather forecast was iffy, but the six of us made the 3 Hour drive and had a great scramble.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles

The weather forecast was for a 20% chance of rain, we had a few drops on the way over. Arriving at the Trailhead at 9:00 AM we were met with blue sky and sunshine, it was warmer than expected!  By noon we had high clouds and some smoke from the Crescent Mountain Fire just south of us.

We found parts of trails  in the basin from the cars, after about .6 miles we found a well defined trail that we took to Kangaroo Pass.  From the pass we went up the ridge and when blocked we dropped off the ridge to the right to go around the obstructions.  While this worked out fine, we could have stayed on that ridge until about 6850' and then pass through a gap in the ridge to the gully. We found the gully with some loose rock and made it to the summit.

We stayed dry all day and enjoyed a meal at the Buffalo Run Diner in Marblemount.
