Backcountry Trail Run - Longs Pass & Lake Ingalls
Spectacular scenery, golden larches in the fall, and views of Mount Stuart. Truely a backcountry route with rugged steep and rocky trails and some route-finding required!

The trail up to Lake Ingalls is in great shape - it sees a lot of traffic and therefore maintenance!
From the lake, the trail disappears, and there's a short section of scrambling along the rocks by the lake shore required.
The trail picks back up just beyond the lake. But quickly fades to a barely-there boot path. It descends steeply through rocky and loose ground to Ingalls Creek.
The trail along Ingalls Creek is more established - it's runnable at a nice gradual downhill grade. The trail is a bit overgrown in places, but not difficult to navigate.
From the campground at Ingalls Creek, you turn right (SW) and begin the really steep climb (think the steepest part of Cableline, and then a bit steeper) up to Longs Pass. The last 200 ft vertical below the pass is in scree and borders on a scramble.
From Longs Pass, back to the cars, is another well-travelled and well-graded trail. Very smooth run down to where you started.
Overall, a fabulous trail. Highly recommend in the fall when the larches are showing color. Would recommend as a hike or a more adventurous backcountry trail run.
