Trip Report

Basic Alpine Climb - Cutthroat Peak/West Ridge

Turned around since a member of our party was struck by a very large rock on approach.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Trail is easy to follow to the cirque.

A member of our party was hit by a large rock on the approach (~6800ft). This appeared to be completely random, since there were no parties ahead of us and the rock came from way up high. The incident was a major close call, and we turned around since the risk of internal bleeding and their ability to continue to climb was in serious question. Everyone was able to walk out.
