Basic Alpine Climb - Pinto Rock/Bowling Alley

Road 77 is in better shape than it has been in recent years. Appears some improvement has been completed to support timber operations in the area. Many many bolts have been placed all over this mountain. We ignored them and climbed the route with traditional protection. Anchor chains and an chain rappel anchor have also been placed. While not strictly necessary, they are an option, if desired.

  • Road rough but passable
  • The position of the anchor chains on the back of the peak may make it somewhat easier for ropes to get stuck both when rappelling and trying to retrieve your rope.  To avoid getting the rappel ropes stuck try to keep the rappel lines low and beneath the protruding bulge on the face just north of the rappel station.
