Basic Glacier Climb - Mount Baker/Easton Glacier

Climb of the Easton in late July

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • The road is passable by all (except low-riders), but some of the potholes are getting pretty big.

The trail is very nice - but busy on weekends.

The glacier was in good condition and many were still skiing the route.

We (a team of 3) hiked up to camp at about 6k ft on Friday.  The fog was thick and we had drizzle for most of the day.  There was a small snow-melt tarn to get water from just below camp.

In the morning we started hiking around 4:30am on snow that had hardened up over night.  The route was straight forward with a clear boot path to assist navigation.  We reached the summit around 8am.

On the way down, the snow was softening quickly, which was nice for the knees, but was still plenty stable.  I was happy with our choice of timing.

After a short time at camp, we packed up and headed out.  The trail was very busy with hikers and we were happy we chose Fri/Sat rather than Sat/Sun for our trip.

All-in-all it was a great trip with beautiful views and great conditions for our summit day.
