Basic Rock Climb - Yellowjacket Tower/East Flank

6.5 hours car-to-car. Snow on approach.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Sign for "Yellowjacket" off the private road and start of trail bordered with logs.

Partial snow cover higher on approach. Rock was snow free except for small bits of ice here and there. Approach shoes sufficed, though mountaineering boots would be better. Snow covering made it somewhat harder to find what was underfoot on approach. On the other hand, it moistened the soil and not as loose as it could have been. [Photo credit Vishal Gupta]

Left the car at 7:25, returned at 1:55. Good pace on approach. Competent climbers made for quick ascent on the 2.5 pitches. YellowjacketSummit.jpg

Efficient rappel set up and leapfrogging ropes helped with minimal wait time on descent. Overcast and cooler temperature. Enjoyed the fall colors on the hike out.
