Trip Report

Basic Snowshoe - Copper Creek Hut

Today was a good break in the weather. Although there was packed snow on the gravel road from the shooting range, we were able to safely drive to the uppermost parking lot by the trailhead. The trail conditions were perfect and we donned our snowshoes at the parking lot. We traveled to the Hut, where we spent almost an hour enjoying lunch, taking photos, and visiting with newfound travelers. We all stayed together and traveled back to the vehicles for a debrief and a safe trip home.

  • Snow and ice on road
  •  As of today, January 15th:  Road 92  is packed snow from the shooting range all the way to the uppermost trailhead.  Chains are required on 2-wheel drive vehicles past the lowest parking lot. The trees are so full of snow that the branches are almost vertical so be careful not to walk under them. Today was a calm day but tonight's breeze will probably cause snow bombs.
