Basic Snowshoeing Field Trip for Tacoma Branch

Make-up Field Trip for Tacoma Branch Basic Snowshoe Course. Originally planned for Paradise, but location was scrapped due to weather/avy conditions. Alternate destination was the White River Trail along SR 410. 6 students and 3 leaders. Successful trip, perfect weather, no issues.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Easy snowshoe trip for basic students. Followed SR 410 approximately 1 mile, stopping along the way to practice required, basic snowshoeing skills. Trail was ungroomed SR 410. At the 1 mile stopping point, we turned around and followed the White River approximately 1/4 mile, giving students opportunities to get off trail, read snow conditions, and practice crossing shallow streams and water courses.

After meeting at the USFS Ranger Station in Enumclaw, the group followed SR 410 to the White River Sno Park at the MRNP entrance. Weather conditions were wet and drizzly until we arrived, then light snow turning to bright sunshine. Ended up being a perfect day.
