Trip Report

CHS 1 Hike - Johnson Creek—Medra Pass

Beautiful day with great views and wildflowers.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • There is a long steep stretch with loose rock that requires careful steps on the way down. Otherwise the trail is good.

The traihead has a brand new port-a-potty. Not room for a lot of cars, but this trail doesn't get the heavy use of other trails in the Teanaway. It is only the last few miles  of road that are unpaved, any car should be able to make it.

We had a mostly sunny day and so the views were fine. Many wildflowers including Larkspur, Columbia Lewisia, Penstemon, Paintbrush and Lupine. Birds seen or heard: Lazuli bunting, Black-headed grosbeak, Purple finch and Hummingbird.
