CHS 2 Hike - Black Canyon (Umtanum Ridge)

Birds, wildflowers and views on a hot day.

  • Road recommended for high clearance only
  • This hike is made up of a series of bad roads, quite rocky in places. There was more mud on the trail and water in the creek than I have ever seen here before.

Sunny and hot.  It was a great day for birding - lazuli bunting, meadowlark, western tanager and more. Plenty of wildflowers, plus views of the Stuarts and Mt Rainier. We walked Black Canyon Road as we did not have high clearance vehicles. This adds 2 miles to the conventional hike.
