Trip Report

Day Hike - Bandera Mountain

Lots of wildflowers made up for the lack of views

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Trail is easy to follow and all junctions are well marked. The final steep section had solid footing through the rocky trail.

We had Bandera mostly to ourselves on this weekday morning. No views whatsoever, but we enjoyed the beautiful forest and the wildflowers that blanketed the mountain as soon as you got out in the open. The beargrass is at its prime, and lupine and paintbrush are also abundant. The trail is very pleasant and well-maintained: our group of eight went up and down in five hours, with ample breaks. Tiny patches of snow on the north side of the ridge, but none on the trail.
