Trip Report

Day Hike - Cedar Butte (Olallie State Park)

Autumn hike with a cloudy view.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • The trail was wet and muddy for the entire span of the hike. Parts of the trail were partially overgrown with brush though those segments were short.

We arrived at the trailhead around 8AM (discover pass required). The parking lot had plenty of spaces available given the rainy and wet conditions.

We started our hike all geared up for fall. Rain jackets, pants, and in some cases umbrellas were used. Boots were useful since the trail had numerous areas of mud and large puddles. The temperature was borderline and required us to make a number of clothing adjustments. Along the way one of the group members pointed out some of the mushrooms we came upon. At the viewpoint we didn't get a clear view of the valley though we did get a neat cloudy view (see photo).

We saw very few groups of people with the vast majority of them on the Iron Horse Trail. Watch out for cyclists since that appeared to be popular even with all the rain and mud.

The hike made for a nice start of the weekend and a more typical start of fall.
