Trip Report

Day Hike - Cougar Mountain Loop

Lovely dinner spot in the woods.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Trail is in good shape. Some small snow patches left, surprisingly not very muddy. Not a lot of blow down, but there was brush hanging over the trail. We did have a branch fall on the trail between two of us. That could have been bad.

We started at the Bear Ridge trail head on SR 900 - room for maybe 3 cars. It is a nice wooded trail with enough elevation gain to meet our goal for conditioning. None of the woodland flowers yet. Now that the snow is gone, the early flowers should start to bloom. We enjoyed seeing the Fantastic Erratic. We had dinner on the Clay Pit road before hiking back and were out before needing head lamps.
