Trip Report

Day Hike - Dirty Harry's Peak Trail

Great hike with interesting views and, of course, the Museum!

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Trail is well-marked and easy to follow, with lots of viewpoints across I-90 in the first half. We had nothing to do with Putrid Pete's Trail, though - started hiking at exit 38, far side, on the newly rebuilt trail.

We had a lovely hike on the relatively new Dirty Harry's Peak Trail (DHPT). There is ample and excellent signage up to the Balcony, and then the trail gets rockier and steeper. Always good footing, though, and the steep switchbacks to the top provide a good workout. The Museum was fun to locate along the way - a little adventure through the forest! - and I removed some of the flagging at the entrance because it's completely unnecessary. Great group, and a great day to be out; lots of wildflowers.

Started hiking around 8am, back at the cars by 2pm with a nice lunch break at the top (good views to the north!).
