Trip Report

Day Hike - Kalaloch Beaches and Ruby Beach to Hoh River

We explored Beach 1 south of Kalaloch; the Kalaloch area; Tree of Life; ended up at Ruby Beach for lunch and then hiked north to the mouth of the Hoh River, about 3 miles one-way. Best to do this hike near low tide.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Roads in great condition; some scrambling to and from parking lots to beaches due to logs, fallen trees, and washed out trails.  Best to do the Ruby Beach hike north to Hoh River near low tide so as to be able to hike in sand and not on rocks.

Sunny skies, highs around 47.  Saw seals and a few eagle.  Be prepared for a stream crossing as you head north from Ruby Beach.  We brought water sandals and changed out of boots/socks for the crossings.  Left Olympia at 7:45 a.m./returned around 7:00 p.m.
