Trip Report

Day Hike - Monte Cristo

Beautiful fall colors right now. A lovely, mellow hike anyone in fairly decent shape can do.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Route is very straightforward. On this trip the streambed was dry so no need for the log crossing. Rocky streambed and occasional plank crossing could be a slight hazard for less-sure-footed so trip leaders should be prepared to offer a pole or hand. 5 of 6 participants used poles for footing. Beautiful fall colors on what started as a rainy day with afternoon sunbreaks.

Driving from north Seattle took 1.5 hours. 5 bird species, chipmunks, FROGS!! Lots of mushrooms of all sizes and types and the fall foliage is getting close to full-on fabulous. Waterproof gear was essential for 5 of 6 participants. Roughly 8-8.5 miles (depending on how much exploration a person was doing at Monte Cristo itself) and about 500' gain. Moving time 4:04, this group left the trailhead at 9:45 and got back to the cars at 3:20 with an hour at the township.
