Trip Report

Day Hike - Mount Si Main Trail

Non-fast paced hike with a great group!

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • The trail is in great condition, with no leaves on the trail. There is a fallen tree that we encountered within the first half a mile or so. Easy to navigate around, or to go over by. It seems to be a very recent downed tree.

On the last half mile you see intermittent slush. We didn't use any traction device but had brought micro spikes just in case.

On that last half mile to a mile we experienced what felt like rain with big drops due to the snow on the trees melting. We all got our rain layers on.

During the last few feet the snow becomes more consistent, and as soon as you reach the boulders, snow becomes the norm. We avoided the scramble due to the slippery slush, so took a break as soon as we got off the canopy and reached the boulders.

Iarrived at the parking lot at 7:30 on Thanksgiving day. The first section of the lot was full, but the rest was empty. The potholes there are "bad" but given that it is only a few feet of driving, all cars can make it.

The temperature midway was 38F and at the top was 32F so you can definitely feel the chill. A hand warmer was most welcome during our snack break there.

Gray Jays/Camp Robbers abound and tried to take the food off of our mouths! Guard your precious food :)
