Trip Report

Day Hike - Pack Forest

This was a CHS hike for the Olympia Branch. We lucked out by avoiding Thursday's rain and then Friday afternoon's rain and were even rewarded with some sunshine and blue skies.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • We intentionally used the network of forest service roads through the area as previous history on the trails through Pack Forest led me to believe the trails would be VERY slippery and muddy due to Thursday's record setting rains.  For most of our route, though, the "roads" were more like wide trails as there was little gravel and lots of grass and plants growing on the "road".  We met one other hiker with two dogs; she reported that bears have been very active in the area lately with numerous sightings, but we didn't see any today.  We got a little bit of rain about halfway through the hike - just enough to warrant putting on rain gear, but within 5 or 10 minutes the rain was over until the drive home.
