Hidden Lake Lookout

Epic day in beautiful alpine 2 hours from Seattle.

  • Road rough but passable
  • Good, a few snow crossings, would suggest poles but no need for ice ax or crampons this late in summer.

This was my first time doing Hidden Lake Lookout and I have to say it's maybe the best payoff view-wise of any hike I've done in WA, and I've done a lot. The forest road up to the trailhead as some pretty big dips and I'd be hesitant to do it in a sedan, but my Outback handled it no problem. The hike itself is full of natural diversity, it starts off in a nice shaded forest area, before opening up to a beautiful meadow of wildflowers, and ends in full-on alpine terrain. There is a good path for most of it and a few snow crossings to boot. The lake lookout is wonderful and it would be worth the journey for that view alone (check picture) but the lookout is still a few hundred feet up and requires a light easy scramble to get to the lookout and true summit. If you haven't done this hike add it to your list.
