Howson Peak (winter)

On 12/27/2015, we attained Pt.5154 (near Sasse Mountain) on a winter scramble, gaining 3,300’ in 7 hours. Deep, fresh snow made progress slow, and we turned back before reaching our original goal, Howson Peak. Still, snow conditions were better than expected, given the several feet of new snow that had fallen in the past week and temperatures were moderate. The powdery snow was remarkably stable, even on steep slopes, and the descent was great fun.
