Intermediate Snowshoe - Mount Gardner

A successful snowshoe of Mount Gardner.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Trail, Road, off trail travel. Used snowshoes above 2100'.

Due to a large pile of snow blocking the Tinkham Rd, we started at the parking area next to the river. We hiked up the McClellan Butte trail to the iron goat trail which we hiked to about quarter mile pass the Harris Creek. We then head up the west side of a mossy bolder field to FS road 9070, putting the snowshoes on when we reach the snow about 2100' level. Due to the poor snow coverage we decided not cut the switchback but to follow the road to just pass the large switchback. At which point we head up, working our way though the  trees until we intersected the road. From there we snowshoed up the roads to the false summit.  Two party member decided to stay there while the rest of us follow the ridge to the true summit of Mt Gardner bypassing the bump on the ridge on the west side.

Weather was cloudy, it did rain for a short time after leaving the summit.

Overall a long day and everyone got a good workout. Nice views from the road and the summit.
