Intermediate Snowshoe - Olallie Lake

Nice trip in a winter mountain forest.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles

The parking area at trailhead had been cleared.  The trail all the way to Olallie Lake had already been beaten in.  We used used boots and microspikes all day, carrying our snowshoes. The bridge over the outlet to Olallie Lake required some care but was easier to attain than last year when it was at the base of a steep trench. Temperatures were comfortable, wind was minimal. Fog above the lake shifted around enough to give us occasional peekaboo views of West Granite and the neighboring ridges.  We had the lake to ourselves at lunch and were only aware of two other parties visiting there, though it’s possible that a later starting party could have gotten there.  Increasing sunlight in the course of the day made for a beautiful winter forest and a congenial group made for an enjoyable day.
