Trip Report

Intermediate Snowshoe - Pinnacle Saddle

We went up Mazama Ridge yesterday, instead of to the ridge east of Castle as had been planned, due to wet avalanche potential.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Plenty of snow up there, starting to get serious by Cougar Rock.   Good footing and traction for our snow shoes.

We started at Narada Falls and then went out and back to the Stevens, Van Trump monument.  Good views of a cap developing on top of Rainier on the way out and of dramatic lighting on the Tatoosh on the way back.  We experienced a stiff wind and not a lot of the expected warmth.  Hardly anyone else was out there yesterday.
