Conditions this year were excellent. The snow didn't start until the trail head at the South Climb / Cold Creek trail head.
Parking was nice on friday- but by the weekend all of the weekend warriors showed up and parking was a nightmare.
The trip up was great. Pikers Peak was steep as usual with lots of wind at the peak. From there the saddle between the summit and piker's peak was calm. Up on the summit there was severe winds and low temps resulting in very severe wind chill.
There were lots of snow cornices on the eastern side of the summit and a huge one on the summit itself- all of which lots of inexperienced climbers seem to be drawn too and want to walk on!
There are too many inexperienced and unprepared /untrained climbers on this mountain. We witnessed many jumping / walking on snow cornices, going up the summit approach with little to no gear, many taking dogs that had no protection either, and finally many going up in the middle of the day when the snow and weather conditions are not viable for climbing. Overall creating a very dangerous environment if you're on Mt Adams past 10 am.
