Mount Rose

Last minute decision to scope out conditions on Ol' Rosie. Arrived at trail at 9:30 a.m., and the parking lot was completely full. Also many cars parked along the road. We expected to share the trail with lots of people, but passed maybe a dozen both coming and going. Mysteriously crowded parking. Only two left in the parking lot when we returned. The porta-potty was not bad.

Hit patchy snow at about 3,400' and then all snow soon after, still pretty deep. Decent packed path, but many holes and potential break-throughs next to logs and rocks made for cautious going. It was icy on and off with mashed potato conditions mixed with short bare stretches on the approach below the summit. Micro-spikes were very nice to have. Snow-free and sunny summit with a brand new sign!
