Our B3 group of backpackers hiked into the Railroad grade camps Friday July 10-11 for an overnight trip. There is NO WATER in the upper meadow, usually available for the Railroad and Cathedral camps. Your water options are the tarn below the lookout (3/4 full to date), the tarn at the top of the railroad grade trail near the uppermost climbers camp (Sandy camp) at elevation 5,900 feet, or a creek on the Scott Paul trail 200 yards east of the Park Butte/Scott Paul trail junction, elevation 4,450 feet. We used this trail junction source, and it was a 15 minute walk (one-way) from the railroad grade camps.
All bridges for both trails are in place (the Forest Service usually removes them mid-September;check with the Sedro-Woolley ranger station). There was one challenging creek crossing on the Scott Paul trail.
The blueberries are ripe! (crazy early)
