Trip Report
Poo Poo Point via High School Trail
A mostly overcast hike to Poo Poo Point from the Issaquah community center with stops for photos with the public art troll and mushrooms. A fun, mentored lead with success by all eight. Great way to spend a Friday morning in October.

Tiger trails are well-marked with signs. As long as you know where you parked your car, you should have no problems getting to your destination and back. We had dry conditions until 11 a.m. when the forecast for rain delivered on its promise; the tree canopy kept everyone mostly dry. The community center was already open at 8 a.m. which made a good restroom stop, and the toilet facilities at the top were also in good condition with toilet paper. I'd been up Poo Poo/Chirico but never this route so it was nice to add to my expanding repertoire.
There were not many people hiking on an October Friday morning, a few trail runners and people mostly coming up the Chirico Trail.
8 of us met at the community center in Issaquah at 8 a.m. to start our hike past the "Jakob Two Trees" public art (troll, see image) by Thomas Dambo, and the high school/dog park, to Tiger Mountain's Poo Poo Point. Rain was forecast for 11 a.m. which, fortunately, was on our way down. The hike was announced as 9 miles but I think it was closer to 8. It took the group 4 hours round trip with half an hour for photos and snacks at the top.
We were a chatty group; we only heard 9 bird species including brown creepers and varied thrushes. The best fall colors were at the community center where maples are a vibrant red and orange. I'd never seen the troll before, that was a fun photo opp. Our leaders pointed out facts about where the trails go, a huge Douglas fir that stands out among all the others, two trees being undercut by erosion, and why the hike destination was named "Poo Poo" (why not "Choo Choo" if it's the sound trains used to make?) No hang gliders - too rainy? seasonally not available?
Well done, all!
