Sail - DUET, Swantown Marina

This was a successful sailing trip with myself (skipper), Kat Hurd (2023 Tacoma Sailing Student), and Alison Pride (past sailing student & experienced crew). It was a cold and blustery weather day, but still a fun and educational trip.

This was a successful sailing trip with myself (skipper), Kat Hurd (2023 Tacoma Sailing Student), and Alison Pride (past sailing student & experienced crew). It was a cold and blustery weather day, but still a fun and educational trip.

We started out at about 12:30 pm and returned just before dark. We started reefed because of the gusts. The sun came out and gusts calmed down about the time we reached Burfoot Park, so we shook out the reef, brought up some food and drinks and had a proper cruising late-lunch.  We sailed from Swantown to Cooper Point. We avoided the rain up to that point, and decided to head back towards Olympia to avoid a storm cell that was heading our direction.  The storm cell hit us when we had full sails up, and I was wishing I still had the reef in. We had a few round-ups, but were able to reduce sails and made it back home without incident.

Fun day and Kat did great as new crew.
