The daily trips were out and back exploring the islands and waterways with opportunities to navigate and trip plan. Throughout the trip we had chances to practice rescues and tows to improve and practice our skills. The leaders gave us chances to paddle in a variety of water and wind conditions.
Driving to our put in at Secret Beach included ferries and border crossings. The last stretch of road was dirt and somewhat rough and dusty. The campsite at the put in was nice, the campsite we found in the islands was very nice. Other than no toilet paper in the biffy, everything was adequate and free from litter and easy access to the water. We saw eagles, seals, deer, mink, mice and rats. The weather was gorgeous and sunny the whole trip with occasional morning fog. Basic kayak essentials needed and bug spray and toilet paper additional equipment. Charts for the area important for awareness for where you were and additional navigation. Out mileage was 8-11 miles per day. Carrying at least 20 liters of water needed as no water sites available on the islands. Our leaders provided excellent pre trip information and guidance throughout the trip. They had good suggestions for additional kayak/camping equipment options and worked with us on improving on kayak paddling and rescue skills throughout the trip.
