  • Utsalady Bay to English Boom 10/30/21

What a spectacular fall day for a paddle! Clear blue sunny skies over Skagit Bay with islands and snow capped mountain ranges all around.  Our crew of four paddlers launched from the Utsalady Point boat ramp. 8 kt winds from the northwest and small waves lapping the beach. We followed the coast around Utsalady Bay east and out around Brown Point.  We encountered some quartering winds as we came around the point and enjoyed a bit of surfing on the larger wind driven waves there.  We arrived at English Boom after 11:30am where we enjoyed lunch, conversation, and more spectacular mountain vistas.  The wind and waves lessened as we headed back to our starting point, following a 215° magnetic heading from Brown Point back to the boat ramp.  Total trip time 3 hours and 13 minutes. Total distance covered was 6.1 nautical miles or 7 statute miles. Max speed 4.5 kts. Average speed 1.9 kts.
