Trip Report

Urban Walk - Woodland Park Zoo

We walked section 2 of the newly created Olmsted 50 trail.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • The route was well kept and mainly sidewalks and urban trails.  There was one sandy/loose section of trail at the end of the Ravenna Park section.

We started where we ended yesterday at the Woodland Park Zoo northwest corner.  We walked along the fence and across the farthest north bridge over aurora.  Crossing woodland park, we entered greenlake walking path at the currently under construction aqua theatre seating structure.  We walked along greenlake to the promenade that leads to Gregg’s cycle.  We continued to pass under I-5, and then into Cowen park for a lunch break.  Out if Cowen, we trekked down into Ravenna Park Ravine.  We found the erratic boulder and then hiked up and across the 20th st pedestrian bridge and back down into the ravine after crossing 2 wooden bridges.  From there, we hiked back up to fraternity row, and down through the UW campus stopping by the gorgeous library where over a hundred newly graduated bank managers were posing for photos.  We ended near husky stadium, by the overpass to the light rail.
