Winter Scramble - Cowlitz Gap & Rocks (winter)
In mixed weather, we summitted Cowlitz Rock, instead of the longer loop trip we'd initially intended.

Gate at Longmire opened at 9:00 and closed at 5:30. Parking lot at Paradise was bare asphalt.
Despite a good foot of new snow the NWAC rating was for moderate avalanche risk. In a day of quite variable weather, fog predominated (cheers for the gps). We also experienced t intermittent snowfall, sun breaks, high and low level winds and at the very end panoramic sunny views. The last 50 odd feet to the summit had a hard crust overlaid with loose snow and required some care to negotiate.
