Trip Report

Winter Scramble - Foss Peak

The weather was much better than anticipated, high clouds lots of sun and excellent firm snow condition made for a very nice overnight. My 5th trip to Foss and the first time I've been able to see the peak. Due to the forecast the crowds were pretty light. The overnight permits are now $6 and it helps to have all drivers and car license information handy when registering.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Firm snow, icy in places.  We went up with snowshoes but found it much better to come down in crampons.  Castle bowl.jpg

Partly sunny and high clouds the whole day made for very nice views, light winds if any.  We could see Adams, St. Helens, Hood and of course Rainier.  Sunday morning we had some light snow and sill high clouds with good visibility until we got down to Narada Falls, we got done just in time.

Thanks to Mire, Jacob and Ian for the pictures.
