Trip Report

Winter Scramble - Mount Teneriffe-Mount Si Traverse

A great bad weather workout of ~5000’ gain over 12 miles (plus a short drive ;).

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • A bit of drizzle in the morning, turning to light snow (above ~3000’) for the entire day.  The last half of the logging road traverse between the Mt. Si haystack and Teneriffe (plus the final ridge run to Teneriffe) required snowshoes.   Micro-spikes were greatly appreciated on descent.

This venue is a great alternative to maintain conditioning when weather conditions are poor.  The Old Si trail quickly get’s you above snow level (with umbrellas making even this wet part tolerable), and most of the day (the traverse between the haystack to Teneriffe, out and back) has cold/dry/snowy conditions.  Our total time was ~9 hours, with ~5 hours for the ascent.  Photos from this, and other trips to this venue can be seen here.
