Trip Report

Winter Scramble - Sorcery Peak (winter)

Bad road conditions and heavy snow, but beautiful 360 views

  • Road recommended for high clearance only
  • Wet and heavy snow, post holing conditions on the approach before the trail turn off

The road is as advertised. Ridden with potholes and washouts. Some sections of the road seems to have been cleared from the recent washouts

When we parked at the trail head, we saw two more cars..we started at around 8.20. decided only to carry snowshoes and ice axe..dropped crampons and microspikes owing to warmer weather the last few days and during the day

We made good time to the waterfalls and then onto the trail turn off. The trail turn off is flagged is right after the major creek crossing

From there, keep really close to the creek, but keeping it to the left till about 3.8k feet. Then traverse over to the lake.

From the lake, which was frozen, we took a lunch break and then walk over it to the other end of the horse shoe to gain the true Ridge

The upper sections of the ridge has some rock out cropings and gets steep. Navigate and proceed with care. There were spinwheel and other loose wet debris on the slopes from previous day's. But mostly small

The summit can take 5 people and has 360 views
