Winter Scramble - Van Trump Park

Successful view-less day up Mildred Point.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Continuous snow  on trail but snowshoes were not needed for the first 1500 ft.  The last 1000 ft were very slow going  while breaking trail through  knee (hip deep in places ) fresh unconsolidated snow.

This was my first scramble up Mildred with zero views the whole day. Cold temps up high  forced us to take quick turns during the slow going trail breaking .  4 hours up and about 3 hours down with only 10 minutes on the summit due to freezing conditions.

The foot bridge located at about 5200  had some wholes in it hidden under 2-3 feet of snow.  Even with snowshoes, careful foot placements were required in order to avoid punching through those wholes.

Great workout and day out despite view-less conditions.
