10 Essentials: Questions
How did you get involved with The Mountaineers?
My best friend Dave took the Basic Alpine Climbing Course and he thought I would really enjoy it. I signed up really wanting to be able to have the skill set to climb the mountains in my own backyard with my friends.
What motivates you to get outside with us?
I think it's always where I am naturally the happiest. There really is nothing better in life than spending quality time outdoors with your friends and family.
What's your favorite Mountaineers memory?
I would have to say climbing Sahale and Sharkfin Tower via Boston Basin with my late friend/mentor Sue B. and fellow student Ethan in an 18-hour epic was a memory I will cherish forever. Sharing experiences in the mountains with friends is really what it's about for me.
Who/What inspires you?
My dad has stage 4 cancer and his fight right now is very inspiring and reminds me to really enjoy life. These moments we get to spend with our loved ones are so precious, especially when that time is spent in our wild places. My dad taught me adventure is a family value and that is something I strive to pass down to our kids.
What does adventure mean to you?
Adventure is sharing experiences outside with your friends and family. Adventure could be climbing a high peak with friends, or it could be walking down to the beach with my three year-old daughter. Adventure, to me, is not about how challenging or hard the journey is, but about these little moments you spend with the people you love.
