10 Essentials: Questions
How did you get involved with The Mountaineers?
A coworker told me that it was a great place to meet people and participate in outdoor activities together.
What motivates you to get outside with us?
That I don't have to do it by myself, and I get to meet other folks and do what I love to do. Now, I lead backpacking trips because I seek adventure and want to give others that opportunity.
What's your favorite Mountaineers memory?
I would say it was one of the first backpacks I went on with Cheryl Talbert on the Lake Chelan Lakeshore Trail. That was when I realized all of what backpacking could be: a phenomenal journey with spectacular views -a real adventure. I think that was really what lit my fuse for backpacking.
Who/What inspires you?
All of the older ladies that still go out and do it. I hope I can still be doing this when I'm their age.
What does adventure mean to you?
When I was a kid I read Lord of the Rings. That book made me want to strap all of my belongings to my back and set out on a quest with who knows what I'd experience along the way. It's getting out, exploring, being somewhere I've never been before, and just feeling like I'm out in the wilderness as opposed to in civilization.
Lightning Round
What's your happy place? On a ridge with a view.

You rock, Deborah! I was hoping I wasn't one of those older ladies myself.
I'm not referring to either of you fine ladies :)
Looking forward to hiking with you again this summer.
