10 Essentials: Questions

How did you get involved with The Mountaineers?

I joined The Mountaineers because the friends I was hiking with at the time didn't want to go as often or as far as I wanted. I had heard about the Conditioning Hiking Series and I joined the club in order to register for that class. I have been hooked ever since!

What motivates you to get outside with us?

The social aspect of hiking with the club is something I really enjoy. I also appreciate the opportunities to explore places I might not otherwise visit. The accountability of hiking with The Mountaineers ensures that I get out during all four seasons and in different weather conditions.

I am also motivated by getting to that next new destination. This keeps me pushing myself so that I can go further and higher.

What's your favorite Mountaineers memory?

The first time I went snow camping comes to mind as a truly enjoyable experience. One of my close friends was on the trip with me and remarked at the huge smile I had on my face as we were searching for our campsite. That night was clear with a full moon so we were able to go on a moonlit snowshoe. It was fantastic and an experience that this girl from Texas had never imagined she would have.

Who/What inspires you?

I am inspired by all the volunteers that keep this organization going. I now also lead hikes and volunteer with the organization myself in an effort to do my part.

I really enjoy introducing people to the club and to the outdoors. Seeing people grow through experience and gain confidence is truly inspiring.

What does adventure mean to you?

For me adventure is about going to new places both near and far. Hiking with The Mountaineers has given me opportunities to explore new places here in Washington and has helped me to train for hikes in other locations.
