10 Essential Questions

How did you get involved with The Mountaineers?

I was stationed at Fort Lewis as a Military Policeman in 1988 and saw Mount Rainier. I told myself that I would climb it one day. Upon returning in 2005...I waited 4 months before launching my first successful attempt of the mountain. From then on I climbed every peak that I thought I could handle. I was trained by a friend of mine, who eventually introduced me to The Mountaineers.

What motivates you to get outside with us?

There is nothing better than grabbing a pack on a tough day and feeling it all the stress melt away while on a long hike or run.

What's your favorite Mountaineers memory?

I don't have just one. My favorite memories involve all the Basic Climbing course students realization that the course is tough, but doable and worth it.

Who/What inspires you?

Julie Myers, a Tacoma Mountaineer Leader who is tough, dedicated, confident, loyal, willing to teach anyone, and has integrity beyond reproach.

What does adventure mean to you?

Doing something...anything extraordinary outside your comfort zone and sharing it with others.

Lightning Round
Sunrise or sunset? Sunrise.
Smile or game face? Smile.
Superpower? The ability to know how others feel at a moment in time.
Post-adventure meal of choice? Hamburger.
If you could be a rock star at any outdoor activity overnight, what would it be?  It would have to be a Mountaineer!
