For our member profile this week we talked to Scott Schissel, a Park Ranger and Mountaineer who loves feeling all the stress melt away while on a long hike or run.
10 Essential Questions
How did you get involved with The Mountaineers?
I was stationed at Fort Lewis as a Military Policeman in 1988 and saw Mount Rainier. I told myself that I would climb it one day. Upon returning in 2005...I waited 4 months before launching my first successful attempt of the mountain. From then on I climbed every peak that I thought I could handle. I was trained by a friend of mine, who eventually introduced me to The Mountaineers.
What motivates you to get outside with us?
There is nothing better than grabbing a pack on a tough day and feeling it all the stress melt away while on a long hike or run.
What's your favorite Mountaineers memory?
I don't have just one. My favorite memories involve all the Basic Climbing course students realization that the course is tough, but doable and worth it.
Who/What inspires you?
Julie Myers, a Tacoma Mountaineer Leader who is tough, dedicated, confident, loyal, willing to teach anyone, and has integrity beyond reproach.
What does adventure mean to you?
