Favorite Activities: Hiking, backpacking, scrambling
10 Essentials: Questions
How did you get involved with The Mountaineers?
I had been hiking largely on my own and recognized that I needed more specialized training to safely explorer the places on my bucket list.
What motivates you to get outside with us?
I love getting out with people who have a baseline level of knowledge and a set of shared principles. I've had the opportunity to learn from incredibly dedicated and talented volunteers so instructing is a way to both sharpen my own skills and give back.
What's your favorite Mountaineers memory?
Gosh, tough call, but I'd say Star Wars Day 2018--dressed up as Yoda for my first time at the crater rim of Mount Saint Helens with my inspiring climbing course classmates (Kylo Ren and Darth Vader according to photographic evidence!). Everything was perfect: the weather, the views, the team. 100% pure joy.
Editor's Note: If you are interested in climbing Mount St. Helens, climbing permits are required year round. From November 1-March 31, permits are free and unlimited through 24.7 self-registration at the trailhead. For permits from April 1-October 31, you must purchase permits in advance and permits are limited to 500/day. Permits go on sale in February. Find more information online at Mount St. Helens Institute.
Who/What inspires you?
We live in such a naturally beautiful area that inspiration is just a window glance or mouse click away, but one of my first experiences with The Mountaineers was with a group of seriously type-A Wednesday-night conditioning hikers. Any time I'm fortunate enough to hike with them I am inspired and simultaneously humbled!
What does adventure mean to you?
Getting out, exploring new places, expanding your horizons, and having a blast doing it!
Lightning Round
What's your 11th essential? A charged, portable battery pack.
If you could be a rock star at any outdoor activity overnight, what would it be? Since I'm training for a Mount Rainier summit in 2019, I'd have to say steep-snow climbing!
