105 more donors needed to protect the outdoor experience

Every change we make to reduce our impact, and every voice that joins to advocate on behalf of the natural world, is a step in the right direction. Donations allow The Mountaineers to have an outsized impact on conservation policy and empower recreationists to find their voice in protecting the outdoor experience.

105 more donors needed to protect the outdoor experience
Waptus Lake Trail. By David Bradley.

This weekend an estimated 23 million people will go camping across the US, and even more will get outside for the day to enjoy parks, forests, waterways, and other outdoor spaces. We love to see people enjoying the outdoors, and believe that each of us has a role in conserving the natural world—and the outdoor experiences we love—for future generations.

We’re looking for 300 Mountaineers to make a donation this month to promote responsible outdoor recreation.

The size of our membership, the breadth of our reach, and our reputation in the outdoor community means that The Mountaineers can have an outsized impact on policy, regionally and nationally. Our collective voice as advocates has added weight because so many members also participate in on-the-ground stewardship. We’re looking for 300 members to join us with a donation this May, and 195 have already made a gift!

Donations of all sizes help our community advocate on behalf of the natural world and protect the outdoor experience. Every change we make to reduce our impact—and every voice that joins in advocacy on behalf of the natural world—is a step in a more sustainable direction.

Will you add your name with a spring donation to conserve public lands and the outdoor experience for generations to come?

Conservation titles like Living River engage community members, voters, and policymakers around important conservation priorities. Donations help fund mission-driven publishing at Mountaineers Books that promotes conservation, low impact recreation, and sustainable lifestyle to our international community of members and readers.

As a donor, you ensure that our community has a voice on issues small and large—from the operating hours at our local parks to protections for vast wilderness areas. Staff and volunteers represented Mountaineers interests and values at almost 50 meetings last year.

Donations allow conservation staff to provide conservation education for future advocates through Mountaineers Summer Camp, Mountain Workshops, and other youth programs.

The Mountaineers Tacoma Program Center achieved net-zero carbon emissions with the installation of solar panels and battery walls earlier this year. Philanthropy reduces our collective carbon footprint through energy efficient upgrades to our gathering spaces, like program centers and lodges. Our goal is to achieve net-zero carbon emissions from direct organizational impacts and to set examples for other property owners in our region.
