Since taking on the role of Everett Branch Chair about a month ago, I’ve been humbled by the words of encouragement I’ve received and by the number of volunteers who have stepped forward to take on leadership roles in our community. Many of you heard the calling I made at our Annual Awards Banquet on November 5 and have raised your hand to help and to learn more about the critical roles in Everett that need filling.
As of this writing, we still have a number of important functions that are open and in need of your talents. If you or anyone you know would be a good fit for these roles, please reach out to me today!
- Branch Director: The Director, in addition to the duties outlined in the Bylaws of The Mountaineers, represents the Everett Branch at the Mountaineers Board of Directors meetings, and reports back to the Executive Committee on the outcomes of the Board meetings. Matt Vadnal is Everett’s current Director, and his term expires in April. Since he has already served two terms, he is term-limited and cannot run again. Matt would be more than happy to chat with anyone interested in this great opportunity to help drive the strategic direction of both the Everett Branch and of The Mountaineers organization itself.
- Hiking and Backpacking Chair: Nic Tormohlen, who has served as Everett’s Hiking and Backpacking Chair for several years, is taking on additional responsibilities within the Climbing Committee and is ready to pass the baton to another committee leader. Hiking and Backpacking activities often serve as the gateway for individuals looking to join our organization and this role is crucial to the recruitment of new members and the building of our community.
- Communications Director: This is a relatively new role on the Everett Executive Committee. We need a talented individual to help curate and publish content for the monthly Everett newsletter. Additional responsibilities of this role would be to support communication efforts to drive interest and signups for Everett branch-wide events (e.g.: social events, membership meetings, etc.)
- Lookout & Trail Maintenance (LOTM) leaders: The Everett Mountaineers Lookout and Trail Maintenance (LOTM) Committee has a long history of fire lookout restoration and trail maintenance in the Cascades. The current chair, Louie Coglas, has served heroically for many years and is long overdue for a well-deserved retirement from this role. We are seeking courageous leaders to chair or co-chair this critical committee.
- Social Committee/Branch Event Planning Coordinators: We are looking for representatives from Everett's larger committees and activities like Climbing, Scrambling, Sea Kayaking, etc. to brainstorm fun and innovative branch-wide events and to assist in the organization of said events (e.g.: the Annual Awards Banquet, Annual Picnic, a reimagined Salmon Bake, etc.)
As you can see, we have no shortage of critical roles in need of talented and creative volunteers and leaders. If you or someone you know would like to help us build on the momentum and energy we initiated at our incredible banquet last month, please reach out to me today. I'd love the opportunity to speak more with you about the different roles and your goals for further developing your leadership.
