BASIC-level Courses
- Basic Snowshoeing: New to snowshoeing? This course covers everything from choosing the right gear to staying safe in winter terrain. Expect a mix of classroom sessions with gear overviews, and a field trip typically held at Stevens Pass. After this course, you'll be ready to join basic-level snowshoe trips and explore the wonders of the winter landscape.
- Basic Snowshoeing Equivalency: Already have some snowshoeing experience under your belt? Our equivalency program allows you to validate your existing skills through an assessment and review process.
Courses for Experienced Snowshoers
- Intermediate Snowshoeing: Ready to tackle more challenging terrain? This course delves into advanced techniques, including avalanche awareness, ice axe use, and emergency shelter building. Expect online preparation, gear sessions, and field trips in locations like Stevens and Snoqualmie Pass. Graduates will be ready for more technical snowshoeing adventures.
- Intermediate Snowshoeing Skills for Scramblers/Climbers: If you're an experienced scrambler or climber looking to expand your winter skillset, this course is for you. Learn to safely integrate snowshoeing into your mountaineering pursuits by learning how to make informed decisions and understand the basics of avalanche gear.
- Intermediate Snowshoeing Equivalency: Seasoned snowshoers with proven experience in avalanche terrain can gain official recognition through our equivalency program.
Camping Skills (COMING SOON!)
- Winter Camping: Dream of spending a night under a starry winter sky? This course will teach you everything you need to know about winter tent camping and snow shelters. The course includes lectures, a field trip preview, and an unforgettable overnight experience.
- Igloo Camping: Take your winter camping skills to a unique level by learning how to build an igloo! This course combines classroom learning with a hands-on field trip where you'll construct and spend the night in your own igloo.
Avalanche Awareness and Trip Planning
- Avalanche Awareness: Avalanche awareness is essential knowledge for anyone venturing into the winter backcountry. Learn to recognize avalanche terrain, understand the factors that contribute to avalanches, and make informed decisions to minimize risks.
