Erik joined The Mountaineers in 2022 and has been serving as Foothills Branch Treasurer since 2023. In this role, Erik works with Foothills Committee Chairs and Committee Treasurers as well as Mountaineers staff to manage the overall financials for the branch, approve expenses, and prepare the annual budget. As a branch treasurer, he is also part of the Branch Treasurer Committee and The Mountaineers Finance Committee.

Erik’s primary activity is day hiking and he’s also taken a number of courses, such as Wilderness Navigation and Wilderness First Aid to improve outdoor skills. Through these experiences, he’s become more prepared to explore the outdoors, enjoyed new hikes, and made meaningful connections with other members. Besides day hiking, you can also find him skiing at a local resort in the winter.

Erik grew up in Michigan and moved to Bellevue in 2000 when he joined Amazon. He left Amazon in 2022, and now enjoys spending his time with his two high school kids, volunteering, and getting outdoors. Outside of The Mountaineers, Erik has volunteered with Washington Trails Association, Farestart, Imagine Housing, Platefull, and the Snoqualmie Pass Volunteer Ski Patrol (who he spent five seasons with).

Erik has a background in corporate finance, but having a finance or accounting background is not required for the Treasurer role. If you like working with numbers, then consider volunteering as a Treasurer. The role is a great way to get experience with budgeting and expense management processes that are used in many companies and nonprofits.

Besides the Branch Treasurer role, there are also Branch Committee Treasurers that work with specific committees (such as the Foothills Scrambling Committee or Foothills Hiking Committee). The Committee Treasurer roles are another great option to consider if you’re interested in volunteering. Please email Erik Jensen with any questions or if you have interest in any of these roles.
