It's estimated that 50-60% of Americans do not have a will in place. While not often a topic of public conversation, we have heard from many members that they are interested in setting up their first will but aren’t quite sure where to start. For this reason The Mountaineers has invested in a new resource for members, providing the latest information about estate planning and tax-smart ways to plan for your future. This online support will be available at any time of day, so that you can find the educational resources you need at a time that makes the most sense for you.
New Mountaineers Estate Planning Toolkits
This online resource was created through a strategic partnership between The Mountaineers and The Stelter Company, a national nonprofit leader specializing in legacy and estate planning.
Plan My Legacy With the Mountaineers
We are excited to share this new website (www.mountaineers.planmylegacy.org), which serves as an education center where you can learn about the many options involved in estate planning. Its easy-to-use toolkits are designed to help you plan the management of your personal estate and to help you protect your loved ones, organize everything in one place, and save on your taxes. It's also a great resource to discover how you can create a lasting impact for The Mountaineers, or any organization that has brought value to your life, by planning for a future gift in your will.
Setting up a will can seem so overwhelming that many people hesitate to start. But no matter the size or scope of your personal belongings, estate planning is important for everyone.
“I made my first will when I was in my 30s. I lost my father when I was young and through that learned first hand what happens when someone passes away. As I thought about my own life, I wanted to be organized, knowing it would be easier and take some of the burden off of the people I love. I wanted to make sure that the things I wanted to happen would happen and the way to do that was to create an estate plan for myself. In this plan, I also decided to arrange for a gift to The Mountaineers, for the day I am no longer able to contribute in person directly. By including a gift in my estate plan, it says this was important enough to me that even if I’m no longer here, I really do want to ensure that others have the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors. ”
