As we're offering more vaccine-required programs, many Mountaineers leaders have requested support with tracking vaccination status. After several months of brainstorming and collaboration, we're pleased to launch an optional COVID-19 Vaccine badge for tracking member vaccination status on the website. Thank you to the many members of our community who contributed feedback along the way!
The COVID-19 Vaccine badge is an optional badge that indicates a person is fully vaccinated against COVID-19. To streamline tracking in their programs, Mountaineers leaders may assign this badge following COVID-19 vaccine verification.
Frequently Asked Questions
What do you considered fully vaccinated?
As of January 2022, according to current Guidance for Mountaineers Programs, you are considered fully vaccinated for COVID-19 two weeks after you get your second shot if you had to get two doses (Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna), or two weeks after you get a single-dose vaccine (Johnson and Johnson (J&J)/Janssen).
How do I get this badge?
Mountaineers leaders may assign this badge following COVID-19 vaccine verification. Leaders should review the Washington State Proof of COVID-19 Vaccination Status guidelines when verifying vaccination status. If you'd like to receive this badge, please contact a leader from a past or upcoming vaccine-verified program.
Leaders assign this badge by enrolling members as students in the current COVID-19 Vaccine Verification course. This badge functions as a "student" badge, and will be awarded upon enrollment.
Leaders who wish to receive the badge should have their vaccination verified by another leader.
Who can assign this badge?
What happens if the definition of "fully vaccinated" changes?
If/when the definition of "fully vaccinated" changes, The Mountaineers will update our program guidance, expire all active COVID-19 Vaccine badges, close the current COVID-19 Vaccine Verification course, update the COVID-19 Vaccine badge page, and open a new course to verify vaccinations for the updated definition.
AS A MEMBER, IS THIS BADGE REQUIRED TO PARTICIPATE IN COURSES, ACTIVITIES, AND EVENTS?
No. This badge provides a convenient method for members and leaders to verify vaccination for participation in vaccine-required programs. If you prefer, you may arrange an alternate method with the leader to provide proof of vaccination before a vaccine-required program. Not all courses, activities, and events have a vaccine requirement. Please contact the leader with any questions about participation expectations.
ARE YOU RETAINING MEMBER VACCINE RECORDS?
No records other than "yes, verified" via receipt of this badge will be retained. We encourage leaders to delete all electronic vaccine records after verification.
I DON'T WANT MY VACCINATION VERIFICATION DISPLAYED ON MY PROFILE. WHAT SHOULD I DO?
Following a vaccine-required program, please tell your leader that you would not like to receive the COVID-19 Vaccine badge. If you do receive the badge, please contact info@mountaineers.org to have the badge removed from your profile.
AS A LEADER, WHERE DO I CHECK IF A MEMBER HAS THE COVID-19 VACCINE BADGE?
Leaders can find badge information on a member's profile, by selecting "Review" next to a members name on a course/activity/event roster (scroll to the bottom of the pop-up window to see badges), or by downloading the roster (a list of badges will be displayed in the far right column).
AS A LEADER, CAN I ADD THE COVID-19 VACCINE BADGE AS A PREREQUISITE FOR ENROLLING IN MY COURSE OR ACTIVITY?
No. To respect member privacy, this badge is optional. Members should always have the option of arranging an alternate method of verifying vaccination status before a vaccine-required program.
As a leader, do I have to assign the COVID-19 Vaccine badge after verifying someone’s vaccination?
No, but this tracking system will only be as big as our leaders build it. If you appreciate the convenience of being able to check a member’s vaccination status through the website, we encourage you to help by assigning vaccine badges for your students, participants, instructors, and fellow leaders.

Log in to add comments.Well, this doesn't sound convenient for leaders or participants. If leaders need to check vax status, it should be added to the displayable and downloadable rosters. For participants like myself that only attend lodges, there isn't a known "Leader" to have submit these things. We combine at least 4 event rosters every week into a consolidated set of planning worksheets over 80 participants and need vax status on those worksheets. This new badge, with poor visibility, seems to help no one, certainly not in any easy way. Checking each individual manually is time consuming. I can't see how this really helps leaders or planners. Think this through better and who and what the needs are.
Thank you for the feedback. We've discussed the possibility of adding COVID-19 Vaccine information directly to rosters, and we understand that there are some additional challenges with lodge rosters/structure. At least for now, to limit time/resources put into a (hopefully) temporary solution, we’re trying to avoid any new website development as a part of this process. We'll keep this feedback/request in mind for any future updates.
