The Seattle Urban Walk Committee is looking for passionate and dedicated members to fill two key volunteer roles: Leader Training Chair and Safety/First Aid Officer. These positions are essential to the success and safety of our Urban Walk program. Both are two-year terms with a start date of October 1, 2024.
Leader Training Chair
Goal of Position
The Leader Training Chair plays a crucial role in guiding and supporting the development of new Urban Walk Leaders. This position is responsible for overseeing the recruitment and training of leaders, ensuring that all urban walks are led by well-prepared individuals.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the recruitment of Urban Walk Leaders, including tracking progress toward their leader badges and assigning mentors.
- Recruit trainers for Urban Walk Leaders.
- Schedule and conduct New Urban Walk Leader Seminars and Pedestrian Safety Seminars.
- Continuously develop and refine training programs for Urban Walk Leaders.
- Monitor the relevance and quality of all training seminars.
- Communicate regularly with the Urban Walk Chair and Committee.
- Participate in the development and review of Urban Walk Leader standards.
Appointment and Length of Service
- Appointed by the Urban Walk Chair for a two-year term, renewable once with agreement.
- Time commitment: Approximately one day per month, including attending six or more Urban Walk Committee meetings annually.

- Passionate about getting people outside and exploring the front country.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work with a diverse group of personalities.
- Experienced in team/project management and comfortable providing peer-to-peer feedback.
- Committed to supporting the growth and development of future Urban Walk Leaders.
Safety/First Aid Officer
Goal of Position
The Safety/First Aid Officer is responsible for maintaining the safety and quality of all Urban Walk activities. This role is vital in ensuring that our leaders and participants are prepared to handle emergencies and that safety protocols are up to date.
Key Responsibilities
- Respond promptly to safety reports and incidents within the Seattle Urban Walk program.
- Communicate with the Seattle Branch Safety Officer, other safety officers, and the Urban Walk Committee.
- Provide access to and vet front country First Aid/AED/CPR training programs.
- Monitor the relevance and quality of First Aid training.
- Track First Aid certification status for all Urban Walk Leaders.
- Participate in the development and review of Safety and First Aid standards.
Appointment and Length of Service
- Appointed by the Urban Walk Chair for a two-year term, renewable once with agreement.
- Time commitment: Approximately half a day per month, including attending six or more Urban Walk Committee meetings annually and Branch Safety meetings.

- Passionate about outdoor safety and ensuring that participants are prepared for emergencies.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work with various personalities.
- Experienced in outdoor safety/first aid and team/project management.
- Committed to maintaining high safety standards and supporting Urban Walk Leaders.
