Investing in mental health is foundational to successful risk management and fostering resilience. For this year’s Leadership Development Series, we’re pleased to offer our first ever Mental Health Symposium, in partnership with The Wilderness Chaplains, in honor of Mental Health Awareness Month.
The outdoors is rife with beauty and tragedy, and time spent outdoors can be both healing and leave scars on the mind that are difficult to recognize, much less heal. With this in mind, we wanted to create a learning experience specifically dedicated to mental health.
The Mental Health Symposium will be a time to engage in hands-on mental health related practices, and learn from Mountaineers leaders and professionals about topics such as psychological first aid, resilience, and community support. Whether you’re a seasoned outdoor professional or new to outdoor adventures, a longtime Mountaineers volunteer or aspiring member, this Mental Health Symposium is for you!
The Mental Health Symposium is meant to offer a breath of fresh air to our community (think of it as a cross between a conference and a retreat). Attendees will have the chance to learn about the value of mental health in the outdoor industry, practice tools to foster their own mental health journey, and connect with fellow Mountaineers and real-world professionals who understand that investing in mental health is vital for thriving and leading successful outdoor trips.
