The Nominating Committee and the Board of Directors believe that the following candidates are the best slate for at-large directors for 2014. All three are endorsed by the Board of Directors and are incumbents who the Nominating Committee has nominated for a second term. Each of the candidates are eager to continue serving The Mountaineers and are more than qualified to help lead the direction of the organization.

The three board candidates above possess the professional skills and personal commitment needed to further our mission: To enrich the community by helping people explore, conserve, learn about and enjoy the lands and waters of the Pacific Northwest and beyond.
Voting
Voting will open at 9 am, Wednesday, October 1 and close at 6 pm on Wednesday, October 22. Voting has been extended. All active members and children over age 14 are eligible to vote. Duplicate votes will not be counted.

Due to the nature of our online ballot, you will have to submit a paper ballot (see below) if you are without a valid email address on file or if you are sharing an email address with a family member.

CANDIDATE STATEMENTS
Lorna Corrigan
Lorna is an attorney in Everett, Washington, where her practice involves general civil litigation, including real estate disputes. She also has experience in real advising small businesses on employment matters, discrimination claims, and contracts generally. Lorna obtained her B.A. in Political Science from Whitman College, and her J.D. from the University of Puget Sound School of Law, where she was selected as member of the National Order of Barristers. Lorna has a life-long interest in outdoor activities, and supports that interest through professional contributions. She provides pro bono legal services to Snohomish County Volunteer Search and Rescue and Everett Mountain Rescue Unit. She is an associate member of the Everett Mountain Rescue Unit. Lorna grew up in the Mountaineers, and learned to ski at the Snoqualmie and Meany Lodges. She rejoined the Mountaineers in 1998. Lorna has served as Branch Chair to the Everett Branch, and has volunteered in many capacities in support of branch courses and events. Activities with the Mountaineers include graduation from the Scramble and Backcountry ski courses. Lorna is currently serving as an at large director and is up for re-election.
Gene Yore
Gene has been VP & General Manager, VP of Operations, Director of Research and a Research Scientist at Honeywell. He also was Deputy for Science and Technology to the Assistant Secretary of the Army (RDA). Gene chaired 2 Boards - the Phillips Works Inc, a non profit incubator for minority businesses in south Minneapolis and ADCO, an international DOD development company owned by 10 companies from 7 countries. He has a BSME from Ohio State University and a MS and PhD from the University of California (Berkeley). Gene has been a member since 1991. He completed the Basic Climbing Course (1991), Intermediate Course and became a climb leader (1996), Water Ice (2000), ABW seminar (2003). He currently serves on the Mountaineers Board of Directors (since 2011) and seeks a 2nd term. He has a long history in the Seattle Climbing Community including: past Seattle Climbing Chair (2009~11), Basic Field Trips chair (1998~99), Inter Club Liaison (2000~02) and founder of Aid & Big Wall seminar (2002~09). Gene also chaired the Mountaineers Technology 2.0 committee, a predecessor to the new website, and previously co-chaired the Magnuson Instructional Requirements Group (2005~07) which defined the Magnuson Instructional Vision. He was the Mountaineers Magnuson renovation project manager and led the Friends of Magnuson Climbing fundraising for The Boulder and was instrumental in the Basalt Columns fundraising. He served on the Mountaineers Books governance committee from 2011 to 2013 and recently coauthored and developed an enhanced Guide to 100 Peaks at Mount Rainier. He holds the 5 peak pin and has reached the summit of Denali, The Matterhorn, Mt Blanc, many Cascades peaks and has made 22 trips to Yosemite since his first Mountaineers' trip in 1996. Since 2004 he has lead 4 successful El Capitan climbs and a number of lessor big walls. He has climbed 95 of the 100 Peaks at MRNP and expects to reach 100 this year. Gene is a member of The Mountaineers Peak Society.
Brian Young
Brian is a Director of Finance for AT&T Mobility. He has financial responsibility for cell site design and operations throughout the western United States and several thousand employees. Prior to joining AT&T, he was a practicing CPA with Ernst & Young LLP for seven years. He is actively involved in mountain sports and programs supporting the special needs community. Brian and his wife, Amy, live in Woodinville and have two children. Brian has been a member since 1993 and has completed the basic and intermediate Climbing courses. He is a past member of the Climbing Committee and member of The Mountaineers Finance Committee. In Brian’s own words : My first introduction to the grandeur of the Cascades was during a three week Outward Bound trip to Central Oregon in 1993. Within 90 days of returning home to NC, I sold my house, moved to Seattle and joined the Mountaineers. Glacier climbs led to alpine mountaineering, rock and ice climbing which led to back-country skiing and now passing those experiences on to my family. Peaks and places that were once fearsome became places of unexpected opportunity and a source of spiritual nourishment. The Mountaineers offers a unique and compelling value proposition for our membership that is not available through Internet meet-up-groups or guide services. The sustained personal interaction between our dedicated volunteer base, activity leaders and participants create highly engaged, highly skilled and consistently safe outdoor experiences. Our program centers, publishing, conservation and lodging capabilities benefit not only membership in the Pacific Northwest but the global outdoor community. Since joining the Finance Committee, I have been impressed by the Club's commitment to and execution against its recent strategic plan, our improved on-line experience, highly recommended youth programing and most importantly, our once-again growing membership base. I am particularly passionate about expanding our membership and our value proposition to ensure the Mountaineer's long-term financial viability. With that foundation, we have the flexibility to evolve our supported activities and how we engage with our membership as the preferences of the communities we serve change. I am grateful for the opportunity to serve on the Mountaineer's Board and support an organization that has given me excellent training, access to new experiences and numerous friendships.
